Congo

15  Children
Funds needed: $1500

It is hard to imagine Congo without considering the bad news: in the last ten years, roughly 5.4 people have been killed in civil war. Sicknesses such as pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria and other small health issues plague its inhabitants.  The civil war is being fought by children who cannot stand up for themselves. Children as young as ten and eleven are being brainwashed into performing unspeakable acts of violence.  They are beaten, starved, armed, and hungry.  A system of corruption and violence prevails in the land.

But there is good news: despite the devastation of human corruption, God advocates for the Congolese. God promises that when Christ returns, he will “wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away” (Revelation 21:4)

This promise is for Innocent Mutware.  Innocent is fourteen and is afraid of thieves and gangs.  His mom prays for her kids each day.  She hopes they will have enough food to eat, she hopes they’ll get to go to school, she hopes they will not become thieves.

Innocent’s mom has been praying this for six years. Her prayers are urgent because as she says, a few years ago, peace left the Congo and wars started.  Kids often don’t go to school because they are afraid of thieves and thugs.”  Also, school is expensive. Innocent’s mom can’t afford the necessary books and uniform to attend.

The bad news is that Innocent’s situation looks bleak, but the good news is that Christ already has the victory and is inviting us to be a part of it!
